New Canadians Exploring in Nature
This fall, we partnered with ISANS, NatureNS, and Ducks Unlimited Canada to deliver two nature walks for new Canadian families in the HRM. In November, we explored the Cole Harbour Heritage Park trails with guides and amazing chefs from Gourmet by Nature, taste-testing examples of the best edible nature Nova Scotia has to offer. The maple syrup was definitely a hit! In December, we wandered into the wild and pristine Sandy Lake park, where we learned about forest types in Nova Scotia and the importance of protected areas for maintaining water quality, flood mitigation, and wildlife habitat.
We were so lucky to have three volunteer translators with us on each trip, to ensure that all family members could participate in engage in our activities, and we were able to make use of our newest publication, the Arabic version of our Guide to Nature in Nova Scotia.
We had so much fun and can’t wait to do it again! Some families indicated interest in revisiting each spot in the warmer months, so we’ll have to arrange for more summer-time trips next year.
